All about a wooden infinite loop construction…
Paul Cocksedge Group is a highly renowned design business that concentrates on ”easiness and creativity in order to develop distinctive individuals’ creations.” It is famous for its inventive models that push the boundaries of technologies and methods. One of the Studio’s most recent works, Time Loop, a major art project, was finished in May in collaboration with Sino Group, one of Hong Kong’s most famous property speculators. The artwork, a huge endless circle made of responsibly harvested wood, is located in Yue Man Square, a central public space in Hong Kong’s Kwun Tong neighbourhood.
Sino Group has given the Kwun Tong neighborhood Time Loop in honour of the firm’s fiftieth anniversary and five years of creating and sustaining. Its looping form is reminiscent of the eternity sign and is meant to depict the town’s constant expansion and change over the last quarter. It was influenced by the adjacent plaza and its heritage. The artwork is ”a statement of appreciation for Hong Kong’s heritage and also an appreciation of its constant transformation and lifestyle of people,” according to the artist.
Though Time Loop is a stationary work, its shape—which slopes into endless circuits a statement of movement and transformation. This mood is reinforced by a ”eternal” poetry etched on the sculpture’s edges in bilinguals, the words of which comment on the passing of time. Its interconnecting circles also enclose views of adjacent structures, developing new and ever-changing viewpoints of the area.
Time Loop is a community art work that aims to have an area for local residents to meet, talk, relax, and amuse while reflecting on and appreciating their environment. This community spirit is a driving force behind the piece’s creation, elevating it from a piece of artwork to a living creature that, like its ancient surrounds, is always growing and developing.
”I’m looking forward to seeing the human figure breathe life into the artwork,” Cocksedge says. ”When people are sitting on Time Loop, they get to be a piece of the town’s motion and development. It represents a place that has been around for a long time but is still growing and updating. And it is the form’s signification.”
