“R.I.P. legend!” Italian pop singer-songwriter Toto Cutugno passed away in Milan after a long illness

Legendary Italian musician and winner of the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest, Toto Cutugno, has passed away at the age of 80. He was widely renowned for his iconic 1983 global hit ”L’Italiano”.

Cutugno, born Salvatore, celebrated his 80th birthday in July but sadly, he breathed his last at around 4 pm in Milan’s San Raffaele hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.

His manager, Danilo Mancuso, shared that the singer’s health had been deteriorating over the past few months after a prolonged illness.

Cutugno’s breakthrough came in 1983 when he presented ”L’Italiano” at the Sanremo Festival, a song that propelled him to international fame.

The heartfelt condolences of everyone extend to his loved ones during this difficult time. The enduring popularity of ”L’Italiano” solidified Cutugno as one of Italy’s most adored musicians on the global stage.
