The unique creature is the most unusual reptile that lives in the world and can reach up to 100 years

Hatteria or Tuatara has survived only in one place on the planet.

They are very similar to iguanas or lizards. Tuatara is in many ways a special reptile, unlike all of its relatives.

Recent studies show that the Tuatara is not only different from its relatives but generally far from all organisms that currently live on Earth.

Hatteria, or Tuatara, has been preserved only in one place on the planet. These are 35 small islands belonging to New Zealand and located near the North Island.

The population of the species is stable, and Tuatara, fortunately, does not belong to the endangered animals.

This is a rather large reptile, the size of which reaches an average of 0.5 meters. On the back of Hatteria, there are peculiar spikes, like crocodiles, and a parietal eye-specific organ is well developed on the head, the purpose of which is not completely clear.

In addition, the tuatara can live without air for an hour and withstand the temperature subtropics quite low for the inhabitant.

But the most amazing is his life cycle. Reaching the reproduction period only by 15 years and even later, Tuatara lives an amazingly long life. She comes to this world a long time, living up to 100 years.

Scientists have found that the tuatara genome is 50% more than the human genome, and the set of these genes is amazing and not similar to anything else.

This animal has 4% of the total genes with reptiles, 1% with placental mammals, and 10% with Australian eggs, malicious, and platypus. This is very interesting and indicates a specific evolutionary path of this species.
