Samantha Smart and her family already owned a pet cat but when Ponyo appeared on their porch they couldn’t resist and took the little kitten home. The kitten was given a stuffed dragon as a gift so he would feel comfortable with his new owners.
Ponyo wouldn’t let his best friend dragon go and would sleep with the toy every night. When it was time to take the cat to the vet, the toy dragon went with them and the vets made sure that the toy was always with the kitten.
