This is all about ethereal and aesthetic embroideries…
Is it soaring through the air? When looking at Katerina Marchenko’s airy tutu designs, you have to question yourself that question. She creates the appearance that the needlework floats for itself by stitching bizarre motifs packed with multicolored threads and glittering jewels onto translucent cloth.
Marchenko had always been attracted to many artistic techniques, but it was only lately that she found stitching. ”A stitching class in 2016 prompted me to make an embellished tutu shirt, and the next year I attended a stitching class at École Lesage School in Paris,” she explains to My Contemporary Met. ”I had a strong interest in creating with color, and needlework fulfilled that ambition.” Her designs use a variety of emotive stitching, ranging from crisp black pencil work to dense, impressionistic splashes of color. She creates beautiful representations of expressive fingers, multicolored eyes, mythical figures, and more in this fashion.
”I believe that creation is a mutual association that you are created with and that it never departs you,” Marchenko explains. ”You simply have this imaginative way of looking at things, and it affects everything you do.” I wish that one hundreds of years within next, people will write about my work and say that it was truthful and sincere. That I used my artwork to communicate my emotions, both happy and negative, and to make the world a bit brighter.”
