Building Trust and Confidence: The Impact of Children’s Reading Program on Shelter Dogs

This is how “unwanted” dogs of the shelters become “wanted”.🤗😊

There is a reason that some dogs don’t get adopted from shelters and that is because of them being shy or unfriendly. This comes from their past traumas and that makes it difficult to socialize with humans who want to adopt them.

An organization The Humane Society of Missouri has initiated a program during which children come to the shelter and read for the dogs.

Kids come to the shelter and read for the dogs as they have a deeper understanding of the nuances of a shelter dog’s body language. Their soothing voice makes the dogs extroverted and “adaptable”. This initiative has worked very well so far.

And because of how this has worked so well it has become a part of Christmas Celebrations. During the celebrations, the kids can make treats for their favorite animals.
