The mother turtle found an appropriate place and left the eggs theređ€đą
One day Frank looked out from the window of her New Jersey house and was simply amazed. He saw a giant snapping turtle and Frank and his kids couldnât understand where it came from.
Frankâs kids watched the turtle and named her Snippy. They enjoyed watching her take refuge in their garden.
Then she left their garden and the kids and their father didnât know if he would return. And also that night a heavy downpour happened and Frank went outside to see what happened.
And there he saw ping pong balls on his path.
And suddenly he understood, that they must be Snippyâs eggs, that she had laid the day before. The eggs were disturbed because of the rain and his kids wanted to do everything to protect them.
He purchased some sand and a ceramic heat lamp and created a makeshift nest for the eggs. The storm had washed away the initial nest and Frank didnât know the eggs would actually hatch.
But after 3-4 weeks his daughter saw a small head getting out from one of the shells. They saw, that the eggs started to hatch one by one and they had a little family of snapping turtles.
Snapping turtles have small yolk sacks attached to their front with the help of which they feed for the first couple of days. When they can use their yolk sack up they are ready to go and live their lives as they want. So thatâs the reason the mother finds an appropriate place and leaves the eggs.
Frank didnât know what to do with the turtles and considered calling the reptile sanctuary in order to ask for advice. They told him to release them as soon as possible, in order they would develop their natural abilities. And he did just like that.
He together with his kids took the newborn turtles to the nearby pond and released them, ready to start their own lives.
