Sculptures of animals, which are made of wood and resin…

Whale Animal Sculpture

Blake McFarland, a former baseball player became artist, crafts creature statues out of an intriguing blend of wood and synthetic polymers. The sculptures combine the delicate elegance of the animals’ forms with the brilliant shine of resin and various colors of wood to showcase the resources and McFarland’s mastery of abilities.

The Whale is one of McFarland’s more recent works, and the title talks for it. The beautiful huge whale’s base is made of wood, while the top is made of a translucent composite that shone brightly. ”The Whale” is made up of 11.5 liters of polymer matrix and seven exotic woods, he informs My Modern Met. By utilizing clear resin on the top part of the whale and various woods on the bottom, I was able to catch the sense of the water.”

McFarland spent a whopping 100 hours on his whale-inspired artwork. He began with a colossal wooden block and glue. ”I used different power equipment to cut it down and polished it all the upwards from to 5,000 grits,” he reveals. ”I’m really pleased with how it ended out.” The Whale will now be held at The Beacon, a refurbished 1920s theater in Topeka, Kansas, once it is finished.

Here are some of McFarland’s creature artworks. He provides movies of his technique in contrast to the images, which are interesting to observe. You can see them as well if you read below.
