Several years ago, a story of an elephant who had been freed after 50 years of captivity went viral on the internet. Everyone is happy for Raju. Thousands of people feel relieved now.
Raju was captivated when it was still a calf, and it was used for entertainment purposes. He had 27 different owners, who mistreated him very brutally when he no longer was able to do what they demanded.
Raju was exhausted physically and mentally because 50 years is not a short term. He could barely endure these conditions longer, as its story knew the Wildlife SOS organization’s members and rescued it at night, to escape the owners.
When Raju was freed from chains, he broke down in tears and so did the volunteers who freed him. He spent several months recovering, as he was given a completely new life and new opportunities to enjoy his life. Now he is free for 6 years and continues to live the happy life he was deprived of for 50 years.
